HONG KONG 03 January 2019 – The training program for life-saving techniques launched by the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Government and civil society partners, conducted its final session for Filipino household service workers (HSWs) for the year at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) on 02 December 2018.
The Hong Kong Fire Services Department (FSD) and Empower U (formerly Domestic Workers Empowerment Project) joined Consulate General officials at the last session of the “Sagip Kapwa, Press to Shock-Save a Life Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Training” at the HKU Meng Wah Complex Theatre 2.
Empower U founder Dr. Michael Manio welcomed the session participants, while FSD Contract Ambulance Services Officer Roger Cheung, supervised the training conducted by the FSD team.
Representing the Consulate General, Vice Consul Fatima G. Quintin thanked FSD and Empower U for their partnership in making the initiative a success for Filipino HSWs in HK.
Vice Consul Quitin also underscored the point made by Consul General Antonio A. Morales during the program launch that, as carers and first responders in many households in Hong Kong, each one of the now 208,000 HSWs is a potential life saver with the proper first aid training.
The Hong Kong FSD handed certificates to close to 50 participants at the end of the training session. Since its launch in July 2018, the FSD has trained more than 500 HSWs on how to properly administer CPR and operate an AED.
The “Sagip Kapwa, Press to Shock – Save a Life & Fire Safety Ambassador Training Programme” was launched on 08 July 2018, and is one of the Consulate General’s projects under its Gender and Development (GAD) Program.
Due to the project’s success, it will continue next year with training sessions from January to June 2019. END
