PH Consulate General in Honolulu Participates in the Campaign to End Violence Against Women

HONOLULU 26 December 2018 – The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu joined the observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) from 25 November to 12 December 2018.
With the theme “VAW-Free Community Starts With Me”, the campaign enjoins everyone to pursue the common vision of a community free from violence against women.
The Consulate General held information dissemination campaign regarding sexual harassment, trafficking in persons, and VAW last 07 December 2018.
Consulate General personnel distributed flyers and discussed about the provisions of relevant laws such as the Anti-Violence Against Women Act of 2004, the Anti-Rape Law of 1997, Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 1995, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003. To generate curiosity among the public, the Consulate’s staff also wore orange shirt in observance of the 18-day Campaign to End VAW.
To further strengthen the its ability to provide assistance to victims of VAW, the Consulate General is also working to establish closer coordination with the Hawai`i State Commission on the Status of Women. A meeting with the Executive Director of the Commission took place on 12 December 2018.
