INSTANBUL 05 April 2019 — As part of its mandate to provide consular services to Filipinos under its jurisdiction, a team from the Philippine Embassy in Ankara served more than 300 Filipinos in Istanbul, Turkey on 24 March 2019.

The team rendered 154 ePassport services, 36 Embassy IDs, 69 notarizations, seven civil registrations and one NBI application.

In celebration of National Women’s Month, women’s health and wellness concerns were discussed by invited speakers. Mr. Datu Abdulshattar Zailon, a Filipino student and registered nurse with a Masters Degree in Public Health, shared the results of his studies on work and health conditions of Filipina household workers in Istanbul.

Based on his research, factors contributing to workers’ poor health conditions are physical role limitations, poor general health and work situation, exposure to abuse and other socio-demographic characteristics. The study underscored the importance for workers to take care of their health while overseas to earn for their families. OFWs were reminded not make a living while killing themselves by not attending to their health and wellness.

Dr. Ahsen Teliogu and Ms. Serap Celik from the Turkish Red Crescent discussed first aid treatments and performed demonstrations useful for emergency situations.  END
