PH Consulate General in Dubai Launches Year-Long Financial Literacy Program

DUBAI 14 August 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, together with its attached agencies, kickstarted its year-long Financial Literacy Program for Filipinos in Dubai and Northern Emirates on 23 July 2019.
Since 2017, the Consulate General started offering training modules on savings and budgeting, debt management, investment and insurance, and entrepreneurship and re-integration spread over a span of one year.
In its efforts to come up with programs that are appropriate to the needs and requirements of Filipinos under its jurisdiction, the Consulate General taps experts from the banking and insurance sectors, investment management companies, real estate firms, and professional organizations to develop training modules aimed at building the capacity of participants on various financial issues that will eventually allow them to make informed, sound, and effective financial decisions.
In 2018, two training sessions customized for household service workers and those interested on writing business plan and feasibility study were added.
Under the expanded Financial Literacy Program for 2019 to 2020, the Consulate General will continue to focus on topics around to wealth generation. It will continue to lead the discussions on savings, budgeting, debt management, insurance, basic information on investments, including opportunities available to overseas Filipinos through their membership in Pag-IBIG and the Social Security System.
The Department of Agriculture , the Philippine Overseas Labor Office, Philippine Trade and Investment Center, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, on the other hand, will spearhead the training modules on to the government’s initiatives toward job creation, entrepreneurship, livelihood, and re-integration.
The first activity in the year-long Financial Literacy Program is scheduled to be held on 23 August 2019 with sessions on savings, budgeting and debt management. END
