PHNOM PENH 11 December 2019 — About 60 members of the Filipino community in Cambodia attended a financial literacy workshop entitled “Panatag na Kabuhayan sa Kinabukasan”, which was organized by the Philippine Embassy on 16 November 2019.

The workshop was conducted by MJ Aguilar who is known as the Millennial Financial Coach in ABS-CBN’s Swak na Swak episodes on personal finance.  During the two-hour event, Aguilar emphasized the importance of personal financial planning and shared with the participants the principles of earning, managing, and growing money towards becoming debt-free.

Aguilar traveled all the way from Manila to share his expertise, upon the invitation of the event’s host, Mr. Teddy Publico, a Phnom Penh-based teacher.

Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh Chargé d’ Affaires Myca Magnolia M. Fischer, in her welcome remarks, noted that while there are many success stories of OFWs eventually becoming Overseas Filipino Entrepreneurs or Overseas Filipino Investors, there have been many sad stories of OFWs, after working 30 years abroad, coming home with even more debts to pay.  “Through this workshop, we hope to equip OFWs in Cambodia with the knowledge to help them embark on a quest for financial freedom.”

The financial literacy workshop was held as part of the Embassy’s Gender and Development Program. END
