ZAMBOANGA 23 December 2019 — The Department of Foreign Affairs – Office of Consular Affairs’ Consular Office in Zamboanga joined the country in the annual observance of the 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW) from 25 November to 12 December 2019.

The Consular Office commemorated the start of the 18-day campaign to end VAW by joining other government agencies in the simultaneous hanging of the campaign’s official streamer on 25 November 2019. With the theme “VAW-Free Community Starts with Me,” orange-clad consular personnel announced the commencement of the 18-day campaign at the start of office operations and enjoined clients to contribute to the advocacy in ending VAW.  The Consular Office also distributed orange-colored candies to clients for free.  The color orange is used in keeping with the United Nations’ “Orange the World” campaign aimed to call attention to the various forms of violence against women and girls.

The Consular Office continued to observe activities in relation to the campaign by distributing VAW-related information materials to the clients.  It also enjoined consular personnel to wear the theme shirt on 12 December 2019 to culminate the observance of the 18-day campaign this year. END
