LISBON 22 January 2020 –– The Philippine Embassy in Lisbon participated in the 18-day campaign to end Violence against Women (VAW) from 25 November to 12 December 2019.
With this year’s theme “VAW-free Community starts with Me”, the campaign tells everyone to pursue the common vision of a community free from violence against women and girls.
The 18-day campaign aims to promote awareness on the various forms of violence women and girls experience, provide information on the laws protecting women and girls, feature VAW-related services that people can access and avail of, and gather public support for the campaign.
As President of the Association of Women Ambassadors (AWA) in Portugal, Philippine Ambassador Celia Anna M. Feria organized a photo opportunity with other AWA members and a number of male resident ambassadors where they stood together in solidarity wearing the color orange at the façade of Paços do Concelho in Lisbon.
In addition to the AWA event, the Philippine Embassy in Lisbon also distributed orange button pins to the Filipino community during the year-end Christmas on last 08 December 2019, at the Rua da Voz do Operário, Lisbon as its contribution to the campaign. A similar activity was also conducted with the Filipino community and Philippine Consulate General in Luanda, Angola during the Philippine Embassy’s consular outreach in that country this month. END
