AGANA 06 March 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Agana donated copies of the children’s book, “Ayoko Po Sana (I Am Sorry, But…)” to the Eskuwelahang Munti ng Guam (EMG) on 22 February 2020 during the start of 21st session of the EMG at the Sentro Rizal Agana.

The book, written by 2018 Palanca Award winner Professor Early Sol A. Gadong, Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines - Visayas, and illustrated by Mr. Borg Sinaban, was inspired by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), particularly the right of the child to be heard and to express themselves freely.

The book was launched by the Department of Foreign Affairs, together with the Australian Embassy and Anvil Publishing Inc., on 19 November 2019 on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the UNCRC. END

With the guidance of the Eskuwelahang Munti ng Guam (EMG) teachers on how to properly enunciate in Filipino, Filipino-American students take turns reading the story of Libay, the young girl featured in the children’s book “Ayoko Po Sana (I Am Sorry, But…)” by Professor Early Sol A. Gadong. Libay is depicted as unafraid to speak her mind and make choices not out of disobedience of or disrespect to the people around her, but because she has been treated with respect while her opinions are carefully considered.
