MOSCOW 09 March 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow kicked off the 2020 Women’s Month Celebration by hosting a fundraising art workshop, in partnership with the American Women’s Organization of Moscow at the Chancery on 05 March 2020.
The event, dubbed as “Creating Masterpieces for Life and Hope”, brought together around 30 female Russians and expatriates in Moscow. Participants were taught the basics of calligraphy and foiling by Russian artist Elena Brazhnikova.
Proceeds will be contributed to a fund for the cochlear implant surgery and the subsequent auditory and speech rehabilitation of a six-year old Russian national, Mikhail, who is from Krasonayarsk region.
The organizers, led by Madame Teelo Sorreta, believe that to be able to truly achieve gender equality, and as precondition for the promotion of sustainable growth of communities, women and other vulnerable sectors of society, such as children, must have access to appropriate healthcare services that can help them develop their full potential as individuals. “The gathering of women, regardless of nationality, to help a vulnerable member of society, is not only an act of support but more especially a statement that tells the world that women are willing, able, and empowered to make positive contributions to society”, Madame Sorreta added.
The event is one of the Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) activities lined up for this year’s Women’s Month celebration, which will be held in three major cities in Russia: Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Yakutsk. END
