DFA Consular Office in Butuan Kicks Off National Women’s Month Celebration

BUTUAN CITY 10 March 2020 – The Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Office in Butuan joins the kick-off activity of the 2020 National Women’s Month Celebration on 02 March 2020.

The activity was spearheaded by the Regional Gender and Development Committee (RGADC) Caraga, headed by the of the Commission on Human Rights and were participated by various government agencies, private sectors, and academe. The participants gathered at the Provincial Capitol Covered Court at five in the morning for the assembly of the Advocacy Walk going to Guingona Park.

The activity aimed to level-up the awareness on the rights of women and their children and prevent them from being victims of any form of violence and abuse. Chairperson of the RGADC Caraga Atty. Jerefe Tubigon Bacang empasized that women’s month is for everyone. The celebration is about women and men celebrates with women for their progress and development. She urged family to apply shared responsibilities such as doing household chores and added that gender equality and mainstreaming should be observed and practiced everywhere.

The activity ended with an Advocacy Zumba Dance to raise awareness on women’s right and urged the community against violence.

The Consular Office in Butuan has series of activities in the celebration to the Women’s Month, this includes the Purple Your Corner, Film Showing, #SerbisyoParaKayJuana, participant to the Womentum of RIACAT Caraga, and may more. The activities that will be conducted in the office aims to heighten the awareness on the promotion and protection of the rights of women in the workplace among the public especially to the clients that we serve and among employees in the office.
