YANGON 24 July 2020 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, in collaboration with Fusion Dance Center Yangon, organized a virtual Zumba dance fitness session for the Filipino men and women in Myanmar on 17 July 2020 via Google Meet.

In her welcome remarks, Philippine Embassy in Yangon Third Secretary and Vice Consul Stephanie Alexis Cruz spoke about the toll that staying at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic has taken on everyone. She emphasized that women have become especially overburdened with multiple roles including homeschooling and working from home, so much so that they tend to neglect themselves including their physical wellness.

Recognizing this, the Philippine Embassy has decided to organize virtual dance workout sessions as one of its Gender and Development programs for 2020 to promote wellness for Filipino women in Myanmar and as a effort to encourage women to live healthy lifestyles and have fitness regimes to take care of their bodies even during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 16 women and four men participated in the said virtual Zumba session.

The Virtual Zumba classes will be conducted every Friday until the end of the year. END
