BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 11 September 2020 – In line with its mandate to promote the welfare and well-being of the Filipino diaspora, the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam held a webinar on “Making Online Learning a Fun and Productive Process for your Children” on 08 September 2020.
In his opening remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Christopher B. Montero stated that the ongoing pandemic has greatly affected and transformed everyday lives, as well as the education system and the learning process that children are usually accustomed to.
“The ongoing pandemic has, to a certain extent, served as a catalyst for innovations in learning, thereby accelerating different modes and content elements of the learning process for students. Thus, we have to adapt to these changes and learn new ways on how we can engage students by making online learning a fun and productive process for students, teachers and parents as well,” the Ambassador told the participants.
Invited resource speakers of the Webinar were: Former Lecturer at the Filipino Language Center of Universiti Brunei Darussalam Frieda Marie B. Adeva, who introduced the new K-12 Filipino Language modules using Alternative Delivery Modes; President of the Brunei Filipino Educators Club Lovella G. Depala, who shared tips and ways on how the parents can actively engage in the online learning of their children; and Secondary English Teacher at St. Angela School, Kuala Belait, Maria Belen Quesea, who discussed how to navigate the Google Classroom learning platform.
The webinar was organized in collaboration with the Brunei Filipino Educators Club (BFEC), with the support of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Office in Brunei Darussalam, and in line with Gender and Development (GAD) program of the Embassy to support and promote the empowerment and enhanced productivity of the Filipino diaspora in Brunei Darussalam.
It was likewise held in preparation for the upcoming Filipino Language and Cultural Enrichment Program (FLCEP) of the Philippine Embassy, which will begin on 11 September 2020. Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s FLCEP will be a blended learning experience, with the use of mostly digital/online platforms and minimal face-to-face interaction between teachers and students.
