MOSCOW 23 September 2020 – Philippine Embassy in Moscow personnel attended a webinar on domestic violence on 18 September 2020. The lecture, entitled “Tiwala at Kalinga: Cultivating a Culture of Trust and Care for those Living and Loving in Violent Relationships”, was delivered by resource persons from Philippine-based Non-Government Organization (NGO) Ginhawa, Inc. Founding Associate and Director Leah R. Tolentino and Board Member and a clinical psychologist by profession Hazel Navarro-Tan.

The webinar was organized to increase the Embassy personnel’s awareness on the issue of domestic abuse and violence in relationships, especially in this time of pandemic when prolonged social restrictions are imposed and economic upheavals happen. Among the topics discussed include the following: Understanding Domestic Violence, Determining Reasons Why Survivors Stay in Abusive Relationships, and Guide to Support and Care Providers, with emphasis on the culture-sensitive approach to Filipinos.

It is hoped that by becoming aware of this complex and delicate problem, the Embassy personnel will be better equipped to handle domestic violence cases involving Filipino nationals residing in countries under the Embassy’s jurisdiction.

The webinar is also a preparatory activity for an e-Kapihan which the Embassy will be hosting, in commemoration of the National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, in October. END
