DUBAI 21 October 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) Dubai, in cooperation with Skyline University College – Sharjah, organized a simultaneous webinar on breast cancer for women at the Migrant Workers and Other Filipinos Resource Center (MWOFRC) and around 40 participants from the Filipino community on 15 October 2020 via Zoom.

The webinar gave basic information on breast cancer, its causes, and the importance of early detection and diagnosis. It also stressed the need to observe a healthy diet to help prevent the disease. Meanwhile, Dr. Sharon Mendoza, a cancer survivor, shared her personal experience in beating breast cancer.

Philippine Consul General to Dubai Paul Raymund P. Cortes shared that the Philippine Consulate continues to conduct information campaigns on matters that affect the Filipino community in Dubai and Northern Emirates. The seminar on breast cancer, for instance, is conducted annually to remind everyone to better take care of themselves.  A diagnosis of breast cancer or any critical illness does not only affect the patient but also the entire family.  Financial, social, and psychological well-being of the family is put to a test when one of its members falls critically ill.

The Consulate hopes that through the conduct of seminars, the Consulate would help mitigate the impact of breast cancer on the individual and on the Filipino family. END
