TORONTO 07 December 2020 – The Philippine Consulate General in Toronto organized a virtual seminar on “Hate Crime”, in partnership with the Toronto Police Service, as part of its Gender and Development (GAD) program on 02 December 2020. The webinar was presented by Detective Sergeant Scott Purches and Detective Kiran Bisla, both of the Hate Crime Unit of the Toronto Police Service.
The Consulate liaised with Police Constable Ryan Park of the Toronto Police Service on the webinar due to the rising incidence of hate crimes in the city. Police Constable Park is the Liaison Officer for Asia-Pacific at the Toronto Police Service.
The webinar was well attended by Filipino Canadian community organization leaders and members and the personnel of the Consulate and its attached Philippine government offices. The webinar was linked to the Consulate General’s Facebook page to maximize viewership and so it can be accessible for people to watch even on other days. To date, there are already 732 views on Facebook.
