PH Consulate General Hong Kong Joins in Observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW)

HONG KONG 15 December 2020 – In observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW held annually from 25 November to 12 December 2020, the Philippine Consulate General, in coordination with the Philippine Labor Office-Hong Kong (POLO-HK) and the Overseas Worker’s Welfare Administration Office–Hong Kong (OWWA-HK), conducted a VAW Information Drive Campaign for the distressed Filipino Household Service Workers (HSWs), who are presently under the custody of OWWA-HK.

The activity aimed to promote awareness on the forms of violence experienced by women and girls alike and provide information on laws protecting women and girls.

In his special message, Philippine Consul General to Hong Kong Raly L. Tejada, underscored the role of the Consulate and its attached agencies, in upholding the rights and welfare of the Filipino nationals, particularly the Filipino HSWs in Hong Kong.

Consul General Raly L. Tejada, along with Consulate’s GAD Team and the OWWA-HK and POLO-HK officials, led in the distribution of VAW advocacy materials (VAW brochures) and health kits containing toiletries and face masks to the participants.

A brief lecture from GAD Focal Point Sheila Monedero-Arnesto on “Laws to Protect Women” (Mga Batas na Nangangalaga sa Karapatan ng Kababaihan) and “Rights of Women” (Mga Karapatan ng Kababaihan, Ayon sa Magna Carta of Women Act of 2009) concluded the activity.

From 25 November to 12 December 2020, the Consulate distributed VAW Kit—containing VAW brochures and facemasks—to its transacting public and raised awareness on VAW through public screening of VAW videos in the Consulate’s public area.

The Consulate kicked off its 18-Day Campaign to End VAW on 25 November 2020 with a GAD lecture on “Sexual Harassment in the Workplace” conducted by its GAD Focal Point Sheila Monedero-Arnesto as a capacity-building activity for the Consulate officers and staff. END
