YANGON 16 December 2020 – As part of its 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine Embassy in Yangon and the Office of the Defense and Armed Forces Attaché visited Eden Myanmar and distributed individual hygiene kits and an electric fan to survivors of human trafficking on 11 December 2020. The hygiene kits contained toiletries, hand towels, VAW-free designed reusable cloth masks, and VAW-Free t-shirts.

During the donation ceremony, Philippine Embassy in Yangon Charge d’Affaires Stephanie Alexis Cruz gave an inspirational speech to the women of Eden Myanmar. She encouraged the girls not to give up hope, and to believe in themselves. She emphasized that these women are strong and empowered, and that no one has the right to hurt them. Charge d’Affaires Cruz discussed with Lisa Samuelsen, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Eden Myanmar the possibility of including Eden Myanmar in future programs and partnerships with the Embassy.

Eden Myanmar is a local non-governmental organization (NGO) that provides holistic care offering shelter, employment, and professional counselling to young women and girls who have been trafficked for purposes of sexual exploitation and forced marriages. END
