MOSCOW 29 December 2020 — In culmination of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, the Philippine Embassy in Moscow held an e-Kapihan on “Living and Loving in Abusive Relationships” on 12 December 2020.

Vice Consuls Grace Perpetua and Anna Guerra delivered the lecture jointly prepared by the Embassy’s Gender and Development team together with Ginhawa, Inc., a non-government organization based in Quezon City., on abusive relationships, specifically touching on the relationship spectrum, with the goal of identifying signs of unhealthy relationships so that intervention may be made before it becomes abusive.  The speakers also discussed ways on how to help or assist victims of abuse and domestic violence.

In his closing remarks, Consul General Bob Ferrer addressed the men in the audience and said “you (men) need to review and view yourselves objectively, and you need friends who can tell you that you do not treat your partners well… men are traditional leaders of the home, and if men do not lead (well), the home really suffers.  So I am asking you men to step up and be the leader.  However, being a leader means you do not dominate the other person, it means you are in the service position.  And, spiritual grounding is also very important.”

The e-lecture aimed to help Filipina migrants who find themselves in abusive relationships, especially in a foreign environment.  It was broadcast live on the Embassy’s FB page (@PHLinRussia) and has been viewed over 1,700 times and shared by 14 Facebook accounts as of 23 December 2020.

Embassy officers and staff also attended a Webinar on Domestic Violence on 18 September 2020, provided by Ginhawa, Inc. and aimed to train the Embassy personnel in handling cases of domestic violence and abuse in the Filipino community. END
