PAMPANGA 01 July 2021 — DFA Consular Office (CO) in San Fernando Pampanga kicked off its campaign by giving away face masks, face mask holders; alcohol and alcohol dispensers to passport applicants, to remind them that protection should continue to be their priority.

In his short introduction, Mr. Chester A. Diaz, Head of Consular Office in Pampanga encouraged the applicants to “prepare and prevent, don’t repair and repent.”  He also emphasized that preparedness and awareness is the key to resilience.

Mr. Jonathan Y. Santos, the Office’s Disaster Management Officer, also briefed the applicants on common disaster responses which may be helpful to applicants wherever they may be.  He also urged everyone to share the information to their loved ones as this will save lives.

DFA CO Pampanga also shared an update on alert status and activity of Pinatubo volcano which was provided by the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction RDRRMC3 since the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHILVOCS) issued a notice for the raising of the alert status of Pinatubo from Alert Level 0 (normal) to Alert Level 1 (low level unrest).

It may be recalled that the eruption of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 was considered the second largest eruption of the 20th century which brought a mix of ash and rain to towns in Pampanga surrounding the volcano causing damage to properties and also claimed lives.

The protection kits, which were distributed by the office to the applicants, also came with infographics on various steps to follow in case of earthquake, flood, typhoon and volcanic eruption.

The activity was also held as part of the celebration of DFA CO Pampanga’s 27th year Anniversary on 25 June 2021.  This also forms part of CO’s Gender and Development Activity (GAD) on raising awareness and specifically targeting women and senior citizens. END
