YANGON 03 December 2021 – In observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine Embassy in Myanmar, in partnership with Center Stage Productions PH, organized an exclusive and limited screening of the film, “Verdict” on 26 November 2021 at the Gaia Ballroom, Zealax Hotel & Residence. The event was attended by diplomats from different missions in Yangon.
In his welcome remarks, Philippine Chargé d'Affaires to Myanmar Jan Michael Gomez explained to the diplomats the importance of raising awareness on gender-based violence. He discussed existing institutions and systems in place to combat violence against women in the Philippines.
Written and directed by Raymund Ribay Gutierrez, “Verdict” is about a battered wife’s fight for justice. The film received the special jury prize during the 2019 Venice Film Festival and was only the Southeast Asian film to be featured in the said festival. It was also screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino in September 2019.
