PH Embassy in Bahrain holds walkathon, legal forum to culminate 18-Day VAW campaign

MANAMA, 14 December 2021 – The Philippine Embassy in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain culminated its 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) with a walkathon and legal forum under this year’s theme, “VAW-Free Community Starts with Me” on 12 December 2021.

The Embassy, in cooperation with the Filipino Club Bahrain, and supported by Verminex, Modern Abrasive, Dunkin Donuts, and Bahrain Bay Development organized a walkathon activity entitled, “Walk with Me for a VAW-Free Community” which was held on 10 December 2021 (Friday), 6:30 A.M. at The Park, Bahrain Bay.

The walkathon was attended by 129 participants who completed either the 2km or 3km designated route at the picturesque Bahrain Bay.  At the finish line, participants were provided with water, juices for the kids, snacks and fruits such as apples, oranges, and bananas.  Dunkin Donuts also provided free coffee for the adult participants.

The Embassy also organized an online forum on women’s rights under Bahrain law on 11 December 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with guest speaker, Atty. Hatem Bakr Mohamed El Katan former consultant of the Embassy through its legal retainer, Maha Jaber Law Firm. 

The forum was organized to inform the public, especially Filipino women who are married to other nationalities and Filipino Overseas Workers who work as household service workers, about their rights and how they can get protection or relief from violence in the home or workplace.
