WELLINGTON 13 December 2021 — In line with the Philippine government commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence and the mandate to raise awareness towards eliminating them, the Philippine Embassy in New Zealand hosted a “Seminar on Increased Safety from Violence in New Zealand” on 13 December 2021.
The End VAW campaign is observed annually in the Philippines from November 25 to December 12 with the 2016-2021 theme of “VAW-free community starts with Me”.
The Embassy has been handling VAW cases, the most common being economic where there is neglect or failure to provide financial support to families in the Philippines. Moreover, at the height of the Covid-19 lockdowns, there have sadly been incidents in the community of physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse, such as cyber-sextortion, digital voyeurism, and sex offending.
