PH Embassy Partners with IOM to Help Irregular Filipino Workers Get COVID-19 Vaccine

 Amman 1

AMMAN, 07 March 2022 — In line with its constant campaign for information and support to the Filipino community in Jordan since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, the Philippine Embassy in Amman  held a  dialogue with the Filipino community leaders for a formal awareness session, in partnership with officials of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on vaccination on 18 February 2022, to encourage other unvaccinated Filipino migrants, especially those of irregular status.

IOM’s Migration Health Physician, Dr. Manal Mahmoud Ali, and Ms. Alina Mihai discussed with the leaders the organization’s general mandate of helping all migrants in terms of development of policies, and the protection and promotion of their rights in Jordan. According to them, as one of their main focus is Migrant Health, they have started their project of providing support to both refugees and migrants in Jordan to gain access to the COVID-19 vaccination since October last year through different initiatives by working closely with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Interior. They have also been partnering with different Embassies, including the Philippine Embassy, to reach out to migrant workers.

The IOM emphasized that they stand ready to assist migrants, especially those who have difficulty gaining access to the vaccine due to their undocumented status. The IOM is providing assistance in all stages of the process, from obtaining a registry number, to registration on the online vaccination platform, and the actual vaccination.

Together with IOM, the Embassy officials emphasized that each citizen’s safety is everyone’s responsibility. They also distributed flyers containing information about this project and IOM’s helpline number which migrant workers can access during weekdays. The leaders expressed their enthusiasm to support this initiative and their willingness to convey the information to the wider Filipino community in Jordan.

Those having difficulty gaining access to the vaccine due to their status may contact either their Filipino community leaders, the Philippine Embassy, or the IOM Helpline at 0797625320. IOM’s Helpline is available from Sunday to Thursday, 8AM to 4PM. END
