MANAMA 16 March 2022 — The Philippine Embassy in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain joined the celebration of the 2022 International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month Celebration, with the theme “We Make Change Work for Women - Agenda ng Kababaihan Tungo sa Kaunlaran” on 08 March 2022.

The 2022 NWMC endeavors to highlight the gains achieved for women and girls, assess actions towards gender equality and look forward to steps that must be taken to ensure progress in empowering women. With the country still reeling from the COVID-19 pandemic, studies and data show that the health crisis has stalled movements towards gender equality, worsened inequalities, further exposed gender gaps, and exacerbated vulnerabilities in social and political, and economic aspects.

As part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, the Philippine Embassy launched its Serbisyo para kay Juana campaign by dedicating courtesy consular lanes for women clients, providing snacks (bread and water), and distributing Magna Carta for Women brochures to all its clients.  The Embassy also provided the NWM Advocacy shirts to its first five clients for the day.

The Philippine Embassy also launched its first-ever Online Poetry Slam open for the Filipino youth in Bahrain (ages 10 to 18 years old) entitled Kababaihan – Ipagbunyi at Parangalan, Pantay na Karapatan, Ating Pahalagahan! in celebration of International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month!

Further, the Philippine Embassy and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration launched the search for the 2022 “Marilag Awards”. The “Marilag Awards” is open to Filipino Women in Bahrain who are in a leadership position, or are entrepreneurs, and/or frontliners.  The Marilag Awardee from Bahrain will compete for the Marilag Overall Winner to be awarded by the OWWA Headquarters in Manila.
