RIYADH 17 March 2022 — The Philippine Embassy in Riyadh participated in the International Women's Day (IWD) Celebration organized by the Wives of Heads of Mission (WHOM) on 09 March 2022 at the Indian Embassy.
The IWD Celebration is a part of WHOM's effort to highlight the achievements of women and girls in the Saudi Vision 2030 landscape and ensure continuous progress in inspiring and empowering every woman in our society. It showcased the rich and diverse culture of each participating Embassies and was attended by a large number of diplomats, citizens, and members of the international community in Riyadh.
Dr. Nizhreen Mapandi-Romato, spouse of Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Rommel Romato led the country’s participation in the event in coordination with Cultural Officer and Attaché Shandyll Manipon and through the support of the Embassy team and family members.
An international art and craft exhibition was also held along with a bazaar, a display of traditional artisanal products, and varied culinary offerings of each country.
The Philippine Embassy featured tourism brochures and products from all over the region and served Filipino delicacies such as kutsinta, pichi-pichi, biko, cassava cake, dried mangoes, and empanada.
For its cultural presentation, the Embassy showcased the Filipiniana gowns of Mr. Meg Biong De Guzman, a Filipino designer based in Saudi Arabia.
The celebration also served as a platform to discuss the IWD’s theme for this year, “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” through an interactive panel discussion, moderated by the Italian envoy’s wife Tania Mehanna, with participation from Reema Al-Ruwaysan, the chief executive officer of Molhimah Group, and Muneera Al-Dossary, head of asset management and chief investment officer at HSBC Saudi Arabia.
