PH Embassy in Brussels Celebrates 2022 National Women’s Month

BRUSSELS 01 April 2022 — The Philippine Embassy in Brussels kicked off its 2022 National Women’s Month celebration on 28 February 2022 with a flag ceremony featuring the All-Women Cast Lupang Hinirang. Embassy personnel then marked all Tuesdays of March as #PurpleTuesdays by wearing purple attire and masks to sustain public awareness on the significance of the celebration.
On 08 March 2022, Philippine Ambassador to Belgium Eduardo José A. de Vega honored female clients and staff of the Embassy with roses and chocolates in celebration of International Women’s Day. IEC materials on legislation that address issues on violence against women and sexual harassment were also made available to clients at the Embassy’s waiting room.
A Zoom Meeting with the volunteers of the Women Helping Women Networks that the Embassy established in Belgium and Luxembourg was held on 18 March 2022 in line with the networks’ capacity-building program. Philippine Honorary Consul Ronny de Blaere oriented them about their rights and the proper responses when accommodating and protecting Filipinos in emergency situations in their homes while they wait for proper intervention from the Embassy and local authorities.
The Embassy organized an online film showing for the Filipino community featuring “Tanabata’s Wife”, a romantic historical drama, and “Sinandomeng”, a heart-warming comedy, that were screened online on 18-20 March 2022 and on 25-29 March 2022, respectively. Through this activity, the Embassy not only provided entertainment and inspiration to the viewers, but also supported the Pinoy Indie Films Road Show and local indie filmmakers in their mission of showcasing socially-relevant, powerful and inspirational stories of women in society for enhanced education, women empowerment, gender equality and ending all forms of violence.
A flag retreat with the All-Women Case Lupang Hinirang was held at the Embassy on 31 March to symbolically close the 2022 National Women’s Month celebration. END

Zoom Meeting of Volunteers of the Women Helping Women Network (WHW Network – Belgium and Luxembourg) for capacity building among the volunteers in providing shelter and emergency intervention to Filipinos in distress. The WHW Network - Belgium was launched on 2 March 2019 and the WHW Network in Luxembourg was launched on 03 December 2022. The volunteers serve as the Embassy’s support group to ensure that Filipinos in distress in these two countries are given the necessary intervention. (Brussels PE photo)
