PH, UN Reps Kick-Off 16-Day Global Campaign against Gender-Based Violence in Geneva
GENEVA, 01 December 2022 — Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva Evan P. Garcia took part in the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to launch the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence held on 25 November 2022 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign to rally support for women’s rights activists and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls worldwide. This year’s event in Geneva was co-organized by UN Women, an entity mandated to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, and the Delegation of the European Union to the UN. The campaign runs until Human Rights Day on 10 December 2022.
“It is important that the international community continue to enhance collective efforts to end gender-based violence and promote an enabling environment where women and girls can fully and meaningfully participate in the affairs of a country in all its dimensions. This is part of the Philippines’ long-standing advocacy in the international arena,” Amb. Garcia stated.
Ambassador Garcia joined other Permanent Representatives, officials of UN agencies and representatives of civil society organizations in the event. END
