PH Embassy in Damascus Celebrates National Women's Month with Filipino Community

DAMASCUS 21 March 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Damascus joined the National Women’s Month Celebration 2023 with the Filipino Community in Damascus on 19 March 2023, wearing uniform shirts with this year’s theme, “WE for Gender Equality & Inclusive Society.”

Before the programme started, Father Miguel Angel Condo Soto of Don Bosco Center Damascus, held a mass and conducted a ceremonial blessing of the Embassy chancery.

Chargé d’Affaires John G. Reyes welcomed the attendees and declared that this was his first formal engagement with the Filipino Community since his arrival in January 2023. CDA Reyes added that the Embassy is the Filipinos’ home and that the Embassy is always ready to assist Filipinos whenever needed.

Gender and Development (GAD) Alternate Focal Point Officer Girlie Corpin then discussed a presentation about the Magna Carta of Women, followed by a woman-empowerment activity led by Finance Officer Jekelyn Esguerra. GAD Focal Point Officer Eleanor Limochin delivered her closing remarks by thanking the Filipino Community’s attendance and asking for their support in the Embassy’s future events. All participants stayed after the programme to partake of Filipino food and dessert.

The Embassy regularly holds activities in participation of the government’s advocacies to engage the Filipino Community members and keep them involved in the Embassy’s programs. END
