MOSCOW, 22 March 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Moscow held a special screening of the film “Retirada” on 19 March 2023, in celebration of the National Women’s Month. It tells the story of the protagonist Azon Marcelo, a retired government employee who explores life’s meaning and purpose in the face of old age and death.
Mr. Milo Alto Paz and Ms. Cynthia Cruz-Paz, Directors of the film, virtually joined the opening of the program. They shared that the story was based on the experiences of those who struggled to adjust after retirement, noting that more merit is given to the young and active people. They further commented that old age may lead to a sense of alienation, or even depression, as one contemplates his/her own mortality.
A total of 93 members of the Filipino community attended the film screening, most of whom are women. The film was positively received by the audience, who expressed their appreciation for the Embassy’s initiatives for constantly organizing activities that are beneficial to their day to day lives.
