MANAMA 30 November 2023 – In observance of the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), the Philippine Embassy in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, conducted several activities in support of this campaign.

The Embassy organized a Seminar on the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls, in collaboration with non-government organization Shamsaha on 24 November 2023.  The seminar was held at the Embassy and was attended by Filipino community leaders and the Embassy’s personnel.

Shamsaha is a non-profit organization based in Bahrain that focuses on women’s empowerment and protection. Shamsaha detailed that it is the first to offer a full-scale women’s crisis advocacy response program in the Middle East, providing 24/7 free and confidential crisis care for women victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain H.E. Anne Jalando-on Louis noted that violence against women is a serious issue that needs to be addressed as it is a violation of human rights and has a devastating impact on the lives of women and their families. In this regard, observing the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women is an important initiative to raise awareness about VAW and measures to prevent it. Ambassador Louis further noted that everyone can play a role in helping create a safe environment where women can live without fear of violence. She noted that there are also men who are victims of abuse and who need similar support and assistance.
