MUSCAT 21 December 2023 – As a kick-off event for the CY 2023 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), from 25 November to 12 December 2023, members of the Philippine Embassy in Oman, joined by the Migrant Workers Office, gathered for a significant flag-raising ceremony at the Philippine Embassy garden

Members of the Embassy and the Migrant Workers Office gathered for a meaningful flag-raising ceremony that symbolizes unity and commitment to promoting gender equality. The event set the stage for a series of activities aimed at raising awareness and fostering a sense of community.

One of the highlights was a unique and empowering Tai Chi session conducted by Master Li Xiao Feng, a Kung Fu champion based in Muscat. This session focused on Tai Chi as a form of self-defense, empowering participants with practical techniques and fostering a sense of physical well-being.

The participants were overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) temporarily housed in the Migrant Workers and Other Overseas Filipinos Resource Center, representatives from the Philippine School in Oman, the Filipino Community Social Club, and Cuarteros Partners Trading LLC. The event was aimed not only to instill self-defense skills but also to create a space for solidarity and support among the overseas Filipino community.

Philippine Ambassador to Oman Raul S. Hernandez, emphasized the importance of the initiative, stating, "In the latest Global Gender Gap Report, the Philippines ranks 16th among 146 countries. Although this performance is high, we must double our efforts to reach higher marks in gender equality and empowerment. Let us all be a beacon of hope and change; each contributing in the promotion of a culture of justice, respect, dignity, and compassion. Let us stand together in solidarity to break violence against women and children."

The Philippine Embassy is committed to promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of its citizens in Oman. Through various initiatives, the Embassy strives to create a supportive and empowering environment for the overseas Filipino community. END
