Marian Jocelyn Tirol-Ignacio, marked the culmination of the annual 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) with the premiere in the Sultanate of acclaimed film “Verdict” by Raymund Ribay Gutierrez .

In her remarks, Amb. Tirol-Ignacio underscored the VAWC theme of the film as well as the underlying commitment of the Philippine government in tackling societal issues on gender-based violence in Philippine society.

“At the start of the Philippine Embassy’s 18-Day Campaign on November 25, we bowed our heads in a moment of silence in memory of the women and girls around the world who experience violence on their persons in their daily lives…We also took an extra step and declared the Philippine Embassy in Brunei a safe space for women and girls. In the days to come, we hope to make good on our commitment to enhance our protection activities for women and girls,” she said.

The movie screening was carried out in partnership with EdukSine Production Corporation, a government-funded hybrid streaming platform supported by the Department of Science and Technology that supports independent films and showcases  educational as well as socially relevant movies through online, face-to-face and block screenings both in the Philippines and overseas.
