PH Embassy in Mexico Observes 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women

MEXICO 28 December 2023 – In observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW) 2023, anchored on the recurring theme “UNITEd for a VAW-Free Philippines,'' the Philippine Embassy in Mexico conducted a lecture on laws protecting women and girls specifically the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 (R.A. No. 9262) and on gender and development during the opening ceremony on 28 November 2023.

In her remarks, Ambassador Lilybeth R. Deapera emphasized the concept that eradication of violence against women “should start from us”. She enjoined the parents to inculcate in the minds of their children that all forms of violence against women are unacceptable and should not happen in our society.

In culmination of the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW, the Embassy invited the Sistemas de Defensa Personal Urbana to teach a basic arnis class for self-defense for the Embassy personnel on 11 December 2023.

Throughout the campaign from 25 November to 12 December 2023, the Embassy personnel and the members of the Filipino community were encouraged to wear orange ribbons to symbolize their support on the elimination of VAW in the society. Likewise, the Embassy personnel were enjoined to wear the 18-Day Campaign to End VAW T-shirt during the Monday flag-raising ceremonies on 28 November, 4 and 11 December to give importance to its campaign to end VAW.
