PHNOM PENH 21 March 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia celebrates National Women’s Month in 2024 under the subtheme “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas; Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, patutunayan!” at the Philippine Embassy that was organized on 17 March 2024 to two special events. This is in celebration of the occasion–towards Security Awareness Seminar and Basic Self Defense Class, as well as the Sunday Consular Service.

The Security Awareness Seminar and Basic Self-Defense Class were conducted by Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Captain Leo C. Dimoc (PN) and Master Sergeant Edelco M. Oyco of the Office of the Defense and Armed Forces Attaché of the Philippine Embassy. Mr. Egon Nile C. Jordan, an expert in Eskrima/Kali/Arnis, guided the participants on some basic techniques to remember in defending ones’ self from attackers or against aggressive behaviors. A total of 30 participants attended the seminar and class.

Highlighting the collective responsibility of all members of society in achieving gender equality, Chargé d’affaires, a.i. and Consul General Ms. Emma Sarne, in her welcome remarks for the Seminar, emphasized that security awareness and sharing basic strategies for personal safety are critical pillars that support the freedom and well-being of every citizen, especially women, who have historically faced greater challenges in this regard.

A Sunday consular service was also conducted on the same day wherein female clients received feminine hygiene products from United Pharma Cambodia and Yul Diversity, the official distributor of pH care products in Cambodia. The provision of feminine hygiene kits helped raise awareness on the importance of access to feminine hygiene products in reducing women’s health risks. The Embassy will continue to distribute feminine hygiene products to female clients in the consular section throughout the month.

On 06 March 2024, employees of the Philippine Embassy gathered for a Basic Gender Sensitivity Seminar to discuss gender equality, Gender and Development (GAD) policies in the Philippines and Cambodia, basic GAD concepts, and GAD in the workplace. On the same day, consular clients received Filipino snacks (ube cheese pandesal) to raise awareness regarding the celebration of Women’s Month.

The Philippine Embassy in Cambodia joins the Philippine nation in celebrating Women’s Month and International Women’s Day on 8 March. The Embassy recognizes the event as a platform to spotlight women’s accomplishments and address ongoing and emerging issues related to women’s empowerment and gender equality. END
