TEHRAN 03 December 2024 – The Philippine Embassy in Tehran held a film showing and open forum in observance of the Embassy’s 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW). The Embassy hosted the event on 28 November 2024 at the social hall of the Embassy and was attended by 24 women participants from the different Filipino Community organizations in Iran.

The Embassy screened four short films from the Cine Juana Digital Shorts Competition by the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW). Following each film, the participants were enjoined to share their reflections and engage in open dialogue, discussing their personal insights and emotional responses. This interactive session, moderated by Consul General Jabbar Adiong, provided a platform for participants to share their own experiences, while also exploring the deeper emotional and social implications of the films. The discussions facilitated a collective understanding of the various forms of violence and abuse, examining their impact in different contexts within personal relationships, family dynamics, public spaces, and the broader journey of womanhood in today’s society.

Ambassador Roberto G. Manalo delivered his opening remarks and provided the background and overarching objectives of this campaign. He discussed the multifaceted nature of violence, noting that its impact extends beyond physical harm to include significant mental and psychological trauma. Ambassador Manalo also shed light on a pressing issue and introduced human trafficking as a broader element of violence against women, particularly those who are subjected to physical abuse by traffickers and by employers in their destinations.

The Embassy’s film showing and discussion session mark a significant step in raising awareness and inspiring action to alleviate violence against women. The participants were also informed of the importance of educating the younger generation on these critical issues, while underscoring the urgent need for collective action to break the cycle of violence.
