PH Embassy in Mexico Meets Philippine Delegation to the IPU Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians

MEXICO 17 March 2025 — The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Mexico welcomed Congresswoman Geraldine B. Roman, Congresswoman Maria Rene Ann Lourdes G. Matibag, and Committee Secretary of the House Committee on Women and Gender Equality Ms. Joy Elena C. Piccio, members of the Philippine delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Women Parliamentarians, on 13 March 2025.

With the theme "From Mexico to the world: Let's mobilize for gender parity!", the Global

Conference of Women Parliamentarians is a platform for discussing good practices in advancing women's political participation and leadership. Participants will hear from a diverse group of parity parliaments, identify challenges in ensuring equal representation and influence for women, and explore effective strategies toward achieving gender parity. The event is jointly organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Senate of Mexico.

Congresswoman Roman emphasized that the conference is an inspiring step towards a more inclusive and progressive society. Both representatives discussed and shared their experiences as women legislators in the Philippines, as well as the challenges and difficulties in passing pro-women and pro-LGBTQ bills. END
