Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam Conducts Seminar on Menstrual Health and Hygiene

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 26 March 2025—The Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam hosted a seminar entitled “Don’t hide it, celebrate it. Period!: A Seminar on Menstrual Health and Hygiene” in commemoration of International Women’s Day and National Women’s Month on 23 March 2025.

In her opening remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam H. E. Marian Jocelyn R. Tirol-Ignacio highlighted the role of information, reproductive health services and public health discourse in addressing the gender health gap by reducing period poverty. She cited data from the World Health Organization on period poverty experienced worldwide and called for urgent action to address it.

Siti Zaimah Roslan, motivational speaker and founder of Bleed Safely Brunei, an organization committed to expanding awareness on menstrual health and hygiene, addressed period poverty in the Sultanate. She shared her personal experiences in addressing menstrual health, taught the audience practices on menstrual hygiene, and led the audience in correctly diagnosing symptoms of frequently experienced menstrual disorders.

Attended by Bruneian women and members of the Filipino community, the lecture not only tackled various aspects of menstrual health but also emphasized the importance of education and institutional support in addressing period poverty. END.
