HONG KONG 03 April 2025 — The Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong successfully conducted a series of empowering activities dedicated to the women of the Filipino Community in Hong Kong, in celebration of National Women’s Month in March. With this year’s theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” the month-long program aimed to celebrate the contributions and resilience of Filipino women.

The celebration kicked off on 09 March 2025 with the launch of the Sining Malaya Women’s Month Feature. The display showcased the remarkable works of Hong Kong-based Filipina broadcast journalist and photographer Ms. Corazon Amaya Canete. Alongside her stunning photographs, the exhibition likewise featured the launch of her anthology, “Kalayaan ng Migrante,” celebrating the voice of migrant women and their stories. The exhibition was hosted at the Sining Malaya Freedom Art Corner and remained open throughout the month of March.

On the same day, the Consulate, in partnership with Pro Bono HK, successfully conducted the 10th iteration of the “Idulog Mo Kay Atorni” legal clinic. Aimed at addressing the pressing legal issues faced by Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong, particularly women, the clinic provided pro bono legal consultations on various matters relating to Philippine family law, property law, and contract law. This year’s clinic introduced assistance on Hong Kong law, with the support of eight volunteer barristers and 13 law student interns, benefiting 20 Overseas Filipinas in Hong Kong.

In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Consulate expressed its appreciation to its female personnel by distributing delicious ube-cheese ensaymadas to 50 of its female personnel. This gesture was a heartfelt appreciation for their hard work and dedication.

Rounding out the National Women’s Month activities, the Consulate organized the first leg of “Juana Knows! Women’s Health Series: Understanding Menopause and Breast Cancer Early Detection” on 23 March 2025. This informative session was held in collaboration with the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation and Hong Kong-based Filipino Dr. Michael Manio of the School of Biomedical Sciences of The University of Hong Kong (HKU.) In his lecture on menopause, six Medical and Pharmacy students from HKU assisted Dr. Manio in giving advice to participants. Meanwhile, Ms. Nicole Ying, a Senior Health Officer at the HKBCF, talked about the importance of early detection of breast cancer and the symptoms of the disease.

The seminar attracted an engaged audience of 50 Juanas, providing them with valuable knowledge on menopause, breast cancer awareness, early detection, and screening.

The Philippine Consulate remains committed to empowering Filipino women in Hong Kong through access to resources, support, and education. These initiatives reflect the Consulate’s dedication to uplifting every "Juana" by celebrating her strength, resilience, and contributions to society. END
