Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Highlights Women's Pivotal Role in Shaping International Diplomacy

BANGKOK 03 June 2025 — Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes participated in a distinguished panel interview on "Women in Diplomacy," co-organized by the media outfit Thai PBS World and Stamford International University. The insightful discussion, attended by students from Stamford International University and other schools, underscored the invaluable contributions of women in shaping international diplomacy, breaking traditional barriers, and paving the way for future generations of women leaders.
The Philippine Ambassador shared her perspectives and experiences as a diplomat and illustrated how women's unique qualities and leadership styles contribute to a more compassionate approach to diplomacy.
She also highlighted the achievements of women in peacebuilding, citing Professor Miriam Coronel-Ferrer from the Philippines as a prime example of being the world's first female chief negotiator to negotiate and sign a major peace accord. The Ambassador highlighted the significant contribution of Professor Miriam Coronel-Ferrer to the earnest and successful effort of the Government of the Philippines, after decades of conflict, to finally bring peace to the Southern Philippines.
The discussions also touched upon the personal and professional challenges that the panellists faced as women diplomats in pursuing their diplomatic careers and how they overcame them.
The panelists, including the Ambassadors of Peru and Sri Lanka, and a Thai official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, encouraged the attending students to step forward as the next generation of women leaders, pursue careers in diplomacy, and work towards a more peaceful world. END
