20 February 2015 – Philippine Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy, Acting Head of Post and representative of Philippine Consul General in Guam Marciano R. de Borja, together with Consulate General personnel and their family members, graced the opening of the art exhibit entitled “Images 4” on February 14. The exhibit was organized by the Guam Filipino Artists (GFA) at the Agana Shopping Center in Guam.

The GFA has been a close partner of the Consulate General in promoting Filipino culture and creative talent through their various activities. “Images” was first started in 2012 as one of the major annual art exhibits of the GFA.

The exhibit featured more than 50 art pieces by 19 Filipino and Filipino-American artist-members of GFA, including paintings depicting various aspects of life and nature using oil on canvas, pencil, pastel, acrylic, mixed media, and photography. One of the works featured is a metal sculpture of the Nazarene created by Mr. Arnold Figueroa, who plans to create an entire series depicting the Nazarene in different poses.

The program included the presentation of a Posthumous Award for Mr. Neil Calderon, a former member of Guam Filipino Artists and Musical Director of Saint Anthony Catholic School, who passed away last year. As an artist, Mr. Calderon was involved in photography, the performing arts and musical composition. He was also the featured artist of the GFA Monthly Exhibit at the Consulate General together with Ms. Ruby “Ubeng” Fabro Torres in August 2012.

In his brief remarks during the opening ceremony, Consul Hamoy expressed appreciation for the close cooperation between the GFA and the Consulate General in terms of promoting Filipino creativity and talent through the arts. He also encouraged the GFA membership to consider sending a delegation of artists to one of the many annual art events in the Philippines so that their work can be exposed to the broader art market.

Representing Consul General Marciano R. de Borja, Consul Hamoy joined the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with Vice Speaker Benjamin J.F. Cruz and Senator Frank B. Aguon, Jr. of the 33rd Guam Legislature; Mr. Meliton Santos Jr. and Mr. Rolly Zepeda, President and Vice President respectively of the Guam Filipino Artists; Ms. Nita Baldovino, President of the Filipino Community of Guam (FCG); Ms. Linda Tolan, President of the Filipino Ladies Association of Guam (FLAG); Ms. Emily Hebrio Wallace, Guam representative of Cebu Pacific; Mr. Carl Gumataotao, Project Manager of the Galaide Group; and Ms. Menchu Suarez, representing Senator Dennis G. Rodriguez Jr. office.

The exhibit, which opened on February 14, is open to the public and will run until February 22. END
