18 December 2013 - On December 15, seven choral groups in Hong Kong held a joint benefit concert for the victims of Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) at the historic St. John’s Cathedral at the Central District of Hong Kong.
The concert was entitled “Songs in the Key of Christmas: Choir Aid for the Philippines.” The choral groups were led by the Welsh Male Voice Choir and consisted of Il Coro, The Cecilian Singers, Grace Notes, Kassia Choirs, Celtic Connections and the Diocesan Pastoral Center for Filipinos Choir. The International Concert Orchestra of Hong Kong accompanied the Celtic Connections in their performance.
After the concert, the organizers presented a symbolic check to Consul General Noel Servigon for the amount of HKD 150,000 representing donations earlier received. The Consulate was informed the next day that more donations had been received during the concert resulting to a total collection of more than HKD 200,000.
The cash collected were turned over to the Hong Kong Red Cross for its Relief Fund for Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). END
