07 September 2017 — Moscow-based senior executives from the marketing and communications firm “RusInfoService” called on Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta on August 23 to share their interest in working with Philippine government agencies to promote the country to Russian audiences. Mr. Denis Klimentov and Ms. Anna Shestachenko said that they were inspired to share their ideas with the Embassy after their visit to the Philippines.
“The Philippines is mostly unknown to Russians,” said Mr. Klimentov. “There’s a lot more news coverage now about it, but it’s not the ‘whole’ image.”
Mr. Klimentov spoke in detail with the Ambassador about effective strategies to promote the Philippines to Russians, taking into account traditional challenges such as the language barrier and the distance between Moscow and Manila coupled with the lack of direct flights, which he believes has hampered the great potential of a booming tourism trade between Philippines and Russia.
Ambassador Sorreta said that the Philippines has been exerting efforts for years to draw more Russian tourists to the country, such as through the Department of Tourism’s yearly participation in the Moscow International Travel and Tourism Exhibition (MITT).
Mr. Klimentov shared his company’s proposal an aggressive and effective promotion of the Philippines to Russian audiences grounded on solid market research. Ambassador Sorreta conveyed his thanks to Mr. Klimentov and Ms. Shestachenko for their visit to the Embassy and for the proposal they submitted and expressed his hope that the closer ties between Russia and the Philippines would engender more collaborations and partnerships between Russian and Philippine firms in the sphere of communication, tourism and trade.
