20 September 2017 MOSCOW — After their successful participation in the 2017 World Food Exhibition in Moscow, officials from the Department of Agriculture along with several Philippine exporters ventured to Food City to learn more about the Russian food market. Food City is a project of the Eurasian Business Union (EABU) which launched in early 2017. It offers members both an online and offline trading platform with the goal of providing a transparent system for direct trading activities supported by a “permanent exhibit” of products from all over Russia and the world in the form of the Food City complex located just outside of Moscow.

During their visit, the delegation met and spoke with members of the EABU – Mr. Timur Karimov; Mr. Andrey Kuritsyn, Marketing Director of GeoSpectrum Group; and Mr. Tigran Tadevosyan of URRAA World. Mr. Timur also led the delegation on a tour of the Food City complex, including several national pavillions, the retail market, cold storage facilities and the open air wholesale trading area. The Philippine exporters had the chance to study the prices of foreign goods, especially potential competing products, which have already entered the Russian market.

According to one of the delegates, the Food City tour served as a valuable exposure for the group on the reality of the Russian market and the competition faced by Philippine exporters in supplying the aggressively growing demand of Russian consumers for food ingredients and food products from tropical fruit-growing countries. The visit proved insightful and productive for the exhibitors among the group, particularly the first-time visitors to Russia who all sought greater information about Russian interest for top-quality goods produced by the Philippines.
