06 December 2013 – The Philippine Embassy in Madrid reported that the UNICEF Spanish Committee, Spanish Professional Football League and Real Madrid Football Club held a press conference on December 05 at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium to officially announce that proceeds of the Champions for Life, a charity football game, will be donated to children who are victims of typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) through UNCIEF´s various programs. The programs aim to help children around the world.
The game is scheduled on December 30 at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, which has an 85,454 seating capacity. Ticket prices are from €5, €10, and €15. The game will be telecast live via TVE 1.
The press conference was attended by Real Madrid President, Florentino Pérez; President of the Professional Football League (LFP), Javier Tebas; Vice President of the Spanish Committee for UNICEF, Juan Ignacio de la Mata Gorostizaga; and Director of TVE Sports, Jesus Alvarez.
Deputy Chief of Mission Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. represented the Embassy in the event. In his remarks, Mr. Dilem expressed great appreciation to all the organizers of the Champions for Life and invited all Filipinos in Spain and all who would like to help Filipino children to support the game.
Champions for Life is a charity game under the agreement between the Spanish Committee for UNICEF and the Professional Football League Foundation (LFP) for the next three seasons. The proceeds will be used for UNICEF´s program to help the most vulnerable children and for LFP´s social programs.
The charity game will have two teams: one representing the eastern regions of Spain while the other will represent the western regions. The teams will be composed of selected players from La Liga and the Liga Adelante. The game will be divided into three parts of 30 minutes each instead of the traditional two parts of 45 minutes each part. END
