10 September 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General in Guam joined the Cebu Association of Guam and the St. Pedro Calungsod Foundation in the celebration of a thanksgiving mass and the enthronement of the images of Saint Pedro Calungsod and Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores on September 07 at the shrine dedicated to them in Tumon.

The celebration was highlighted by a short procession and followed by a Holy Mass officiated by Archbishop Anthony Sablan Apuron of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Agana. The mass was concelebrated by Monsignor Brigido Arroyo of Saint Anthony/Saint Victor Church in Tamuning and joined by several other Filipino priests on the island.

The occasion was attended by Governor Eddie B. Calvo, First Lady Christine Calvo and one of their daughters, Lt. Governor Ray Tenorio, Presiding Judge Alberto Lamorena, Senator Dennis G. Rodriguez, Jr. and other Guam Government officials as well as by members of the Filipino community and hundreds of devotees on the island, including visitors from Cebu. 

The officers and staff of the Consulate, led by Consul Edgar Tomas Q. Auxilian, Acting Head of Post, also attended the festivities.

Consul Auxilian, together with Governor Eddie B. Calvo and First Lady Christine Calvo were invited to lead the offertory.

Saint Pedro Calungsod was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI on 21 October 2012.  He is the second Filipino to be declared a saint by the Roman Catholic Church after Saint Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila.

The feast of Saint Pedro Calungsod is celebrated in Guam every month of April. As Saturday has been designated as the day of the devotion in his honor, the Cebu Association  of Guam holds a Holy Mass every first Saturday of the month in honor of Saint Pedro Calungsod at the St. Pedro Calungsod and Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores Shrine.

The Cebu Association of Guam is headed by its President, Mr. Enrique Ganaan, while the St. Pedro Calungsod Foundation is chaired by Mr. Tim M. Oftana. END
