12 February 2016 - The Philippine Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Points attended the First General Assembly of the European Network of Filipino Diaspora (ENFiD) Switzerland on February 06 at Sihlquia, Zurich. ENFiD is a civil society umbrella organization of Overseas Filipinos with 20 Member Countries including Switzerland.

During the meeting, ENFiD members discussed the organization’s four main areas of work in the Two-Year Action Plan (2YAP) of ENFiD-Swiss. These include: EMPOWERING Euro-Pinoy Youth; EMBRACING the Environment; ELEVATING Philippine Arts & Culture and to EDUCATING Filipinos Overseas. A planning workshop where participants were encouraged to give their inputs for the 2YAP followed afterwards.

Aside from the 4E’s, ENFiD-Swiss have three advocacy-related themes that are also in line with the Embassy’s planned activities – the Overseas Absentee Voting, Human Trafficking and West Philippine Sea.

For the GAD-related advocacy project, the Embassy and ENFiD agreed to conduct a GAD Trainors’ Training some time during the second half of the year. Target participants for the training are Filipino leaders from different parts of Switzerland. The goal is not only to educate the leaders but for them to also be able to conduct echo training activities for their respective constituents.

The General Assembly was attended by leaders of Filipino organizations from different Cantons, second-generation Filipino-Swiss, Filipino artists in Switzerland and some members of the Filipino Community. Representatives from ENFiD- Czech Republic were also present during the event. END
