03 November 2017 MOSCOW — Some 50 Filipinos residing in Moscow gathered at the Philippine Embassy on October 14 to meet with National Youth Commission (NYC) Chair and CEO Cariza “Aiza” Seguerra. The Filipino community were delighted by the rare chance to meet the celebrity and recording artist-turned-government official who is a familiar face to most Filipinos who watched television.

The audience, composed mostly of women, engaged in an hour-long dialogue with the NYC Chair on a topic that hit close to home: according to Chair Seguerra, the majority of cases of sexually-transmitted diseases among youth are from members of OFW families. The Chair discussed the need for more candid and fact-based conversations starting with the family and extending to the greater environment of the child, including the child’s interactions in school. This, according to the Chair, can greatly contribute to reducing the vulnerability of Filipino youth to sexually-transmitted diseases.  The audience was very receptive to Chair Seguerra’s talk and thanked him for meeting with the Filipino community in Russia.

The talk was organized by the Philippine Embassy in Moscow in coordination with NYC. END
