09 January 2014 - The Philippine Consulate General in Guam is pleased to report that the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) donated US$100,000 to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) that struck the Philippines last November.
The said donation was personally handed over by no less than FSM President Emanuel Mori to Philippine Honorary Consul in Micronesia Dr. Merlynn Abello-Alfonso during a simple turn-over ceremony at the President’s Office in Pohnpei, FSM on 23 December 2013.
Consul Abello-Alfonso personally turned over on January 07 to Philippine Consul General in Guam Bayani V. Mangibin the check donation addressed to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). Together with the check was the original letter of President Mori to President Benigno S. Aquino III, expressing sympathies and condolences.
Likewise, Consul Abello-Alfonso turned over to the Consulate the following cash donations addressed to the DSWD from various groups and individuals in Pohnpei, FSM:
1) Ms. Emiliana (Emy) Musrasrik and Mr. Ricky Carl - $500.00;
2) Genesis Pharmacy (collection from Donation Box) - $33.22; and
3) Filipino Employees at College of Micronesia National Campus in Pohnpei (collection
from their fund-raising, i.e. selling of T-shirts) - $670.00
TOTAL - $1,203.22
Consul General Mangibin expressed profound appreciation for President Mori’s expression of sympathy and generous help extended by the Micronesian government and people to the typhoon victims in the Philippines. END
