03 February 2015 - Support for the Ilocano Language Immersion Program, dubbed as iLAING or the Ilocano Language Acquisition and Immersion for the New Generation builds up with the signing of the Project Title Sponsorship Agreement on January 28 at the Philippine Consulate General.

Signing the agreement were Ms. Helen Grace Go and Ms. Bernadette Fajardo of the Candonians of Hawaii, Atty. Franz Juan, Executive Director of the Filipino Community Center, and Mrs. Maria A.F. Etrata of the Renato and Maria A.F. Etrata Foundation, the title sponsor.

Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin, Dr. Aurelio Agcaoili of the Ilocano Language Program at the University of Hawaii in Manoa, and Ms. Michi Villaluz, President of the Filipino Junior Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii witnessed the signing ceremony.

The Renato and Maria A.F. Etrata Foundation has committed to provide US$5,000 for the program.

The iLAING will afford thirty qualified, young Filipino Americans the rare opportunity to learn basic Ilocano language in a classroom set-up for a period of three months in 2015. At the end of the language course, the top five students will be selected to embark on a 10-day immersion program to Ilocos in June 2015. END
