2nd SSV Order of PH from Indonesia — BRP Davao del Sur Arrives in Manila

10 May 2017 SURABAYA, INDONESIA — Surabaya-BRP Davao del Sur (LD 602), the Philippine Navy’s strategic sea lift vessel, departed Surabaya, Indonesia on May 03 and arrived in Manila’s South Harbor on May 08. A formal arrival ceremony will be held on May 10 at 1500H while a separate commissioning rite is scheduled to be done during the 119th anniversary of the Philippine Navy on May 30 in Davao City.

A sail-away ceremony hosted by PT PAL’s President-Director Mr. Budiman Saleh was held Tuesday at the Indonesian state-owned PT PAL’s shipyard in Surabaya was attended by a number of officials from the Department of National Defense and the Philippine Navy, led by Undersecretary Ricardo David. Indonesia’s Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu also graced the sail-away ceremony. The Embassy was represented by Charge d’Affaires a.i. Shirlene C. Mananquil.

BRP Davao Del Sur is the second of two Philippine Navy amphibious landing docks built by PT PAL under a contract signed in 2013.

Launched on September 29, 2016, BRP Davao del Sur, together with its predecessor, BRP Tarlac (LD601), both ships will serve as a floating command and control platform especially in the conduct of humanitarian assistance and disaster response, military sealift and transport vessel.
